Australasian Schweppes Oaks 2016 Betting Tips

The 2016 Schweppes Oaks takes place at Morphettville Racecourse in Adelaide on Saturday, betting tips for the three-year-old fillies’ feature found below.

Due to run as the sixth race on the Robert Sangster Stakes Day card, this season’s $400,000 Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) is set to run at its capacity 16 starters with four emergencies awaiting a start.

Favourite in Schweppes Oaks betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at $5 for the win is the in-form Andrew Noblet-trained Silent Sedition who has won three of her past four starts.

Her latest success was a fortnight ago at the Morphettville track where she enjoyed the win from a wide alley in the Group 3 Auraria Stakes (1800m), which has produced three of the past four Australasian Oaks winners.

Next best in betting are market mover Abbey Marie ($5.50) who has won her opening two career starts, last start WATC Derby winner Arcadia Dream ($7.50) prepared by last year’s winning trainer Grant Williams, ATC Oaks placegetter Believe ($8.50) and Bengal Cat ($9) shooting for three wins on the trot.

So will one of the single-figure fancies get the job done or is there value further down the Schweppes Oaks odds with an upset from the likes of the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained Sacred Eye ($11) who is the only filly with winning form over the distance?

1^st

#3 Believe ($8.50)

Anthony Cummings saddles-up this promising Fastnet Rock filly whose last start was the close third when under a length off the winner Sofia Rosa in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m). She drops 400m down to the 2000m for this, a distance she saw when ninth in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill the run before. She’s a proven stayer, is against arguably an easier field of rivals here and her form can stand up. Wide draw also a non-issue with five of the past six Schweppes Oaks winners jumping form double-digit gates.

#2 Arcadia Dream ($7.50)

This visiting Perth filly has the outside alley to overcome (16) so needs luck, but she has class and is looking to hand Williams with back-to-back wins after his success with Delicacy 12 months ago. Like her stablemate she won the WATC Derby last time out over 2400m so will eat up these metres. William Pike knows her well, she’s flying and deserves respect for her Adelaide debut.

#6 Silent Sedition ($5)

The deserving favourite is looking to salute for the punters and she’s ticking plenty of boxes. Barrier is ideal, Craig Williams is one of the country’s best hoops and her lead-up form is super consistent. The daughter of War Chant debuted in Adelaide last start for a Group 3 win in the traditional Oaks lead-up and she’s out to complete the double now.
